This Sunday, over 35,000 fans will fill TD Place Stadium in Landsdowne for the CFL’s final showdown of the season between the Calgary Stampeders and Toronto Argonauts. Thanks to an incredible donation, two of our youth will be in attendance!
However, this special story doesn’t end there… Alex Mateas, offensive lineman for the Ottawa Redblacks and 2017 CFL East All-Star, wanted to do something extra special for these youth. Alex wanted to make receiving the Cup tickets exceptionally memorable for Ethan and Nick. Alex personally invited the boys to the Kids Up Front Ottawa office and presented the two football players with their tickets to this year’s 105th Grey Cup!
Football is a cornerstone for the boys and continues to enrich their lives. So naturally, they were beyond appreciative and in awe to meet Alex, pass around his 2016 Grey Cup Championship ring (exceptionally blingy), and “talk ball” with their local football hero as he shared some of his playing experiences.
“Being an Ottawa native and having won a Grey Cup with the Redblacks was amazing” added Mateas. “Unfortunately, we’re not in the big game this year, but it’s nice to be able to give these two deserving kids the Grey Cup experience.”

The tickets were donated by a local business and community leader, Richard Bertrand. “I’m fortunate to be able to pass on my love of professional football to these deserving kids,” Richard said. “Having Alex and Kids Up Front as partners in this endeavor only makes Ottawa a stronger community all around.” We’d like to thank Richard for his thoughtful donation to our program, and his kind words about our mission to strengthen the Ottawa community – one ticket at a time! As Ottawa prepares for a week of Grey Cup celebrations, Ethan and Nick are thrilled to share their excitement with friends and family! Kids Up Front Ottawa looks forward to continuing to grow our program and delivering incredible experiences to deserving kids.
