Agency Spotlight – St. Joe’s Women’s Centre
About St. Joe’s Women’s Centre
St. Joe’s Women’s Centre operates a day program dedicated to the needs of women in a supportive and safe environment. The program has a long history in the city, having opened their doors in May of 1984. Originally a daytime shelter for homeless women the centre continues to offer a caring and safe place to spend the day.
St. Joe’s Women’s Centre offers a variety of services to Ottawa women. Nutritious meals, an emergency grocery program, laundry and shower facilities as well as therapeutic animal visits are just a few of the many services offered. The centre also has connections to various resource organizations in the city, and offers referrals to those supports.
The Women’s Centre believes in promoting empowerment, autonomy and dignity in a non-judgemental atmosphere. Their programs offer women a place to spend the day and make a real difference in their lives.
Kids Up Front’s Impact
Kids Up Front partnered with St. Joe’s Women’s Centre in July of 2017. Since then, we’ve provided them with 163 tickets. These tickets have a face value of $7,277.66.
We’ve been delighted to offer St. Joe’s tickets to a wide variety of programming and experiences. In addition to hockey tickets and museum passes, we’ve provided them tickets for Michael Bublé, Bangarra Dance Theatre, and the Ottawa Fringe Festival.
St. Joe’s staff member Megan Fleming said the following of the partnership:
“Many of the women and children that come to the Women’s Centre struggle with feelings of isolation and feel disconnected from their community. The tickets provided by Kids Up Front allow these families to feel like they are a part of something special and provide a unique experience that they may not have the opportunity to share in otherwise.”
We’re proud to partner with St. Joe’s, a long-standing Ottawa community support.
