Agency Spotlight – Catholic Centre for Immigrants (CCI)

About Catholic Centre for Immigrants (CCI)

Immigrants represent almost one quarter of the population of Ottawa. The Catholic Centre for Immigrants (CCI) works to help newcomers realize their full potential in Canadian society. They promote and facilitate the reception of newcomers to Canada, while sensitizing the community to address their needs, and respond in-kind.

CCI started in 1976, as the Catholic Immigration Services – Ottawa. Working in partnership with the Archdiocese of Ottawa, the organization expanded in 1978, adding additional staff members. In 1984, the group decided to become an autonomous organization, forming the Catholic Immigration Centre.

Throughout their long history, The Catholic Immigration Centre continued to expand their programming and services for newcomers. In 2011, they were officially renamed the Catholic Centre for Immigrants.

CCI provides countless services to newcomers including temporary accommodations, orientation to navigate life in Canada, language assistance and special youth programs.

Kids Up Front’s Impact

The Catholic Centre for Immigrants was one of our first partners in Ottawa, joining our program in March 2017. Since then, we have provided their program with 894 tickets worth a value of $28,496.16.

We’ve been delighted to provide newcomers at CCI a true variety of experiences. We’ve provided tickets for sporting events, museum passes, orchestra concerts, camp registrations and more!

On January 4th, forty kids, youth, and family members joined us to watch the Ottawa Senators take on the Tampa Bay Lightning. Though the home team lost, this was an unforgettable experience for ticket recipients. Many kids were attending their first NHL and were electrified by the atmosphere of the arena.

Community Connections Worker Laurie Hinsperger said the following about our partnership:
“The tickets provided by Kids Up Front have allowed our newcomers to connect with each other and the Ottawa community. These experiences are instrumental in introducing our clients to Canadian culture and helping them feel welcome.”

We’re looking forward to continuing our partnership with CCI and providing opportunities and experiences to the newcomers in their programs!
